CRAFTFOLK ART AND CRAFT EVENTS 2008 Craftfolk are pleased to announce the following dates for the 2008 series of Arts and Crafts Events some of which are still provisional and may depend upon Planning Permissions and other event organisers. FOR ALL OUR CARDIFF EVENTS WE HAVE BEEN RELOCATED FROM THE HAYES, WORKING STREET AND ST JOHN’S CHURCH AREA TO “THE FRIARY” BECAUSE OF THE ST DAVID’S 2 DEVELOPMENT. “THE FRIARY” CAN BE FOUND DIRECTLY OFF QUEEN STREET BETWEEN JJB SPORTS/SUPERDRUG AND THE PRINCIPALITY BUILDING SOCIETY. FEBRUARY & MARCH 2008 ST DAVID’S DAY FESTIVAL – The Friary, Cardiff City Centre Thursday 28 February to Saturday 8 March inc (Subject to Planning Permission) A “Welsh Themed” event in Cardiff City Centre. Up to 30 canvas units with lockable wooden inserts are available. EASTER AT ST FAGANS (MUSEUM OF WELSH LIFE) www.nmgw.ac.uk Good Friday 21 March to Easter Monday Monday 24 March 2008 inc The first of a series of dates at the Museum of Welsh Life following the success of events held at this very popular free entry venue last year. MAY 2008 MAY DAY AT ST FAGANS (MUSEUM OF WELSH LIFE) www.nmgw.ac.uk Saturday 3 May - Monday 5 May 2008 inc Enjoy May Day at St Fagans with their associated activities. CARDIFF SPRING FESTIVAL 2008 – The Friary, Cardiff City Centre Thursday 8 May to Saturday 24 May 2008 inc (Excluding Sunday 11 and 18 June) (Subject to Planning Permission) Sited in the heart of the City's trading area. Art and Craft demonstrations are always welcome. Up to 30 canvas units with lockable wooden inserts. JUNE 2008 NEWPORT ART AND CRAFT FESTIVAL Commercial Street, Newport Friday 12 to Saturday 14 June inc Up to 30 Art and Craft Stalls interspersed with seasonal Food and Drink. CAERPHILLY FLOWER FESTIVAL 2008 Friday 27 & Saturday 28 June 2008 Sited in the Twyn car park in Caerphilly in conjunction with a Continental Market. JULY 2008 INTERNATIONAL FOOD AND DRINK FESTIVAL www.cardiff.gov.uk Oval Basin/Cardiff Bay Friday 11 July - Sunday 13 July 2008 inc The Cardiff International Food and Drink Festival showcases the best of Welsh produce alongside that of its international neighbours. It will host over 40 individual food and drink producers from throughout Wales who will be joined by producers from France, Germany, Norway, Italy and the Czech Republic. There is a full entertainment programme featuring music, dance, street entertainers and cookery demonstrations along with a French ‘Guingette’ serving Muscadet wine and a well-stocked bar and restaurant tent. CAERPHILLY BIG CHEESE FESTIVAL 2008 Around the moat of Caerphilly Castle Saturday 26 July and Sunday 27 July 2008 Featuring Europe's largest travelling funfair, medieval villages, rock bands, street entertainment and theatre plus the Big Cheese Tent and over 50 of our Art and Craft Stalls. AUGUST 2008 CARDIFF SUMMER FESTIVAL 2008 - The Friary, Cardiff City Centre Friday 1 to Saturday 16 August 2008 (excluding Sunday 3 and 10 August) (Subject to Planning Permission) The Cardiff Summer Festival is situated in the heart of the City centre. Up to 30 canvas units with lockable wooden inserts. NATIONAL EISTEDDFOD OF WALES 2008 – Coopers Field, Cardiff Saturday 2 to Saturday 9 August 2008 eisteddfod.org.uk The World’s largest competitive cultural festival. ART & CRAFT AROUND THE BAY 2008- Cardiff Bay Norwegian Church area and beyond Sunday 3, 10, 17 & 24 August, Bank Holiday Monday 25 August, Sunday 31 August and 7 & 14 September Situated around the railings at £10 per 10ft per event. (Stalls not available, bring your own table, weather dependent, artists may just turn up and pay on the day). An element of handmade crafts will also be permitted again this year, but on a completion of a Booking Form. Once completed you will not be committed to participate but it will enable Craftfolk to operate our vetting procedure and to give you prior permission and a licence. Booking forms are not required for Artists. Please note, stalls, umbrellas or any type of weatherproof structures may not be erected. AUGUST BANK HOLIDAY AT ST FAGANS (MUSEUM OF WELSH LIFE FAGANS)* www.nmgw.ac.uk Saturday 23 August to Monday 25 August 2008 inclusive This is our final event at St Fagans for 2008 which has a high visitor profile at this time of year. OCTOBER 2008 COWBRIDGE FOOD AND DRINK FESTIVAL Saturday 25 & Sunday 26 October 2008 The extremely successful Cowbridge Food and Drink Festival, now in its 5th year, will again host over 70 suppliers of top quality produce from throughout Wales, a Champagne tent, Salon Culinare competition, real ale festival, children's activities and more. We anticipate that the Art and Craft stalls will again be sited in the Vale Forge, North Road, next to the site of the Food and Drink Festival held in the Arthur John car park. DECEMBER 2008 CARDIFF AT CHRISTMAS ART AND CRAFT FESTIVAL 2008 Thursday 13 November to Tuesday 23 December inc “THE BEST WALES CAN OFFER”. In its 16th year, “Cardiff At Christmas”, the well established out-door art and craft stalls will be sited in the “THE FRIARY”. (Situated directly off Queen Street, in the area between Superdrug/JJB Sports and The Principality Building Society). The stalls were usually sited in the Hayes, Working St and the John’s Church area. The Festival will open again every day 9.30am to 6.00pm. (5.00pm on Sundays) with 50 stalls hosting a rolling programme of at least 80 genuine artists and crafters selling their own work, together with a selection of food and drink stalls. Passers-by will be tempted by enamel and pewter work, heritage images of Wales, carved Welsh lovespoons, metalwork, photography, hand built and pierced pottery, silver and precious stone jewellery, pyrography, traditional wooden items and toys, art works and cards for all occasions, specialist knotting, leatherwork, glasswork and needlework together with many original decorative items for the house and garden - to name but a few ! Commission, personalise gifts or just taste the seasonal food and drink on offer. Choose from a selection of home made Welsh fudge, whisky, wines, fruit and cream liqueurs, cheeses, fresh hot pancakes, honey roasted nuts and a traditional hog roast. Enlarged black and white photographic images of Wales from a bygone era may be seen depicted on the doors of the stalls before opening and every evening after closing. Follow the avenue of lights for a memorable history lesson. Cardiff At Christmas Art and Craft Festival provides a focus for arguably the finest shopping atmosphere in Britain. We look forward to seeing you there to support the quality artists and crafters who are keeping traditional skills alive. GENERAL INFORMATION Please contact us for details if you are interested in participating in any of the above events. Initially we will send you an Information Pack including an Expression of Interest Form to allow you to request individual Booking Forms. These Booking Forms will detail costs for canvas and/or lockable stalls with wooden inserts, may give information about the event and availability of tables/counters, clear weatherproof removable front sheets and electricity. Booking Forms requested will be sent to you as and when available, however, you are not committed to participate until you return them to us duly completed. You will be asked to complete a Criteria Form which will allow us to undertake a form of vetting involving interested parties on behalf of the relevant event organisers and City and County Councils. We therefore require photographs and/or examples of your work or a website address to enable us to view your work. Please note that arts and crafts must be created, made, designed or altered/adapted to give an appreciatively ‘added value’ by the exhibitor or a family member by the exhibitor or a family member. Site visits to workshops/premises may be arranged to verify originality of goods or you may wish to call in to see us personally. If you have any queries regarding the safety of your goods, Trading Standards are very helpful. Please note that they may also inspect your goods at events. Events will be outdoors in 2.5m x 2.5m (8ft x 8ft) canvas units (For some events it may possible to book a double unit i.e. 5m frontage x 2.5m depth). For Cardiff City Centre shows only, these units may be supplied with lockable wooden doors and internal wooden panels so that goods can be left overnight as security will be in operation. However, goods will be left at your own risk. CraftfolK staff will be on site during the day or on call, if you require assistance. Stalls or positions on site will not be allocated until CraftfolK have received a signed Booking Form, payment in line with the Terms and Conditions and details of your work by way of our Criteria Form. So that you know we have received your Booking Form we will return a copy to you for your records within 2 weeks. If, however, you do not receive this then please contact us to verify that we have received your booking form. A detailed ‘Setting Up’ letter will be sent just prior to the event. This may include your position on site, maps, opening times, etc. It is normal procedure to attend for the full duration of the dates shown on the Booking Form, for example, the full three days, the full week, etc. If you are unable to attend any event for the specified duration, please let us know because occasionally we may be able to find, or know of another potential participant in the same situation. If we have space or cancellations, free demonstration stalls (to be used alongside an already booked stall) may be available. INSURANCE All crafts people must also certify that they are carrying adequate Public Liability Insurance of at least £2,000,000 in connection with their attendance and with the sale and usage of their goods and by application do so warrant.
